Hanoi Welcome Mid-Autumn Festival with Thousand of Colorful Lanterns

The fabric lanterns make the whole street colorful when it lights up.

Not only Hang Ma, this year Phung Hung mural street also hangs lanterns to prepare for the Mid-Autumn Festival. “From this week, the lantern has been hung with the length about 300 meters to the end of Phung Hung street,” said Duc Nguyen, who lives in Hanoi.

Unlike traditional lanterns often found in Hang Ma, these lanterns are made from fabric in cylindrical shape with pastel colors.

At night, the whole road lights up under the sparkling lights of the lanterns. Many young people come here to take pictures. “I’ve come to Hanoi many times but this is my first time walking around thousands of beautiful fairy-like lanterns,” said Ai Duyen, a female tourist from Da Nang.

The lanterns are paint with traditional patterns such as flowers, leaves, drums, carp, etc. The street has a different look in day and night time, so people are welcome to visit anytime.

Phung Hung mural street was opened to the public in early 2018. This is a walking street with 17 frescoes recalling Hanoi in the past made by Vietnamese and Korean painters. It is always crowded on weekends and holidays. Nearby is the famous “railroad community” with cafes occupied right next to the train tracks.

Along with Phung Hung mural street, many streets in the old town of Hanoi also display lanterns and bouquets of flowers. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival in Old Quarter will be hold from September 6 to September 13, 2019 (August 9 – August 15 in lunar calendar). Transportation will be prohibited in some street such as Hang Ma, Hang Luoc, Hang Ruoi, Hang Chai, Hang Khoai. Visitors should be aware of prohibiting time, from 7am to 10pm, starting from August 30 to September 13, 2019.
